Southern Toadlets are small amphibians found in southern Victoria, Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands. They feed on small invertebrates in dry forest, woodland, shrubland, grassland and heaths. They shelter under leaf litter and other debris in moist soaks and depressions. Females lay up to 200 eggs in shallow burrows under leaf litter or in grassy depressions near water. The nests are often covered over with soil. The burrows are flooded after heavy rain and tadpoles released into pools.

Call: a short “cre-ek”repeated every few seconds
